International Workshop on Architectures and Systems for Big Data in Science and Engineering Research
Kochi, Kerala, India
29-31 August 2013
Co-located Event held in association with International Conference on Advances in Computing and Communications (ACC-2013)
Managing research data has been recognized as one of the most vital promising requirements by the research community. For the moment, the capability for companies to handle big amounts of datasets is now considered as a key factor for innovation. The companies now commonly termed this trend by the term "Big Data". In Research we used to speak about e-Science, which designate computationally intensive science. Both terms deal with the concept that science and enterprises are now making progress in a data intensive environment, with datasets that exceeds the processing capacity of conventional database systems and come from many different sources. Big Data sizes are a constantly moving target currently ranging from a few dozen terabytes to many petabytes of data in a single data set and the difficulties include capture, storage, search, sharing, analytics and visualizing. In that context, research and Innovation will not only depend on new data center facilities and new cloud computing infrastructures but also on tools, standards and people able to manage the workflows of data from their capture and storage to their analysis, visualisation and sharing.
We are pleased to request papers for presentation at the First International Workshop on Architectures and Systems for Big Data in Science and Engineering Research held in conjunction with ACC 2013. The workshop will provide a forum to exchange research ideas related to all critical aspects of emerging architectures and systems for big data in science and engineering research. We hope to attract a group of interdisciplinary researchers from academia, industry and research labs.
Authors are cordially invited to submit original research papers in any aspects of Big Data with emphasis on but are not limited to the following topics:
